SPEAKout Poetry

Poet Application

Apply to SPEAKout today and have your chance to perform in The Art Gallery of Hamilton, and compete for $300 top prize!

Please read the following conditions before filling out the Application Form below:

Application submission deadline: December 28, 2011

  • Each applicant must provide exactly 3 pieces of work they wish to perform with that follows the criteria below:

Respect – Without profanity. SPEAKout’s events are all without profanity, expletive and/or explicit sexual content. We seek to benefit from all demographics of society, and believe in creating an environment where no one is excluded
Purpose – “Help your brother; the oppressor & the oppressed”. How do we help the oppressor? By letting them know when they are oppressing others, and speaking out against similar actions. Spoken word is not just poetry; it is a social service, a live and independent commentary critique for the people, by the people
Community – Connection. We believe words are the bridge between heart and hand; that the first change that takes place is in the heart & mind. Poetry is not the end; it is just the beginning. Your words should bring people together; not tear them apart

  • Each applicant must submit a short video of a past performance (no shorter than 60 seconds in length)
  • Each applicant must pay $10 as an application fee

If you have any questions or uncertainties, don’t hesitate to ask.
